(posted 2017-09-28)

The Department of Biology at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Quantitative Integrative Biology at the Assistant Professor level. We encourage applications from candidates using current quantitative and statistical methods to understand complex biological and ecological systems. Specific research areas that would complement existing strengths in the department include landscape ecology, disease ecology/epidemiology, population biology, microbial evolution, global change science, phylogenetic inference, and population/conservation genetics. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in statistical approaches that can be applied broadly across our department, such as complex multivariate analyses, spatial analyses and geostatistics, Bayesian statistics, and analysis of big data.

Candidates should have a PhD and post-doctoral experience in a relevant field of biology, a strong history of research accomplishments and funding, and a record of collaborating across traditional disciplinary boundaries. Teaching responsibilities will include participating in and developing undergraduate and graduate biostatistics courses using “R” statistical packages, and additional advanced courses in the candidate’s areas of expertise. The successful candidate will participate in MS and PhD programs in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and/or Cell and Molecular Biology. Preference will be given to candidates who will mentor students in more than one of these graduate programs. Many of our faculty also participate in graduate programs such as Computational Sciences, and Biomedical and Medical Informatics.
