New Mexico State University: Lab Research Technician position - Neurogenetic mechanisms of adult vocal learning

A Lab Tech. Research position is available in the Department of Biology at New Mexico State University in the lab of Timothy Wright. The position is funded through an NIH grant to study the behavioral function of vocal plasticity in adult parrots and the role of FoxP2 and other genes in maintaining this plasticity. The research involves behavioral studies, bioacoustics analysis, targeted manipulation of gene expression, neuroanatomical studies and transcriptome analysis of key regions in the parrot vocal learning pathway.

The research position is available for an initial period of two years with a possibility of renewal. Experience in the areas of animal care, behavioral experiments, neuroscience, bioacoustics, and/or molecular genetics is desired. Also valued are strong organizational and communication skills and an ability to work independently within a collaborative team.
