The College of New Jersey: Research Technician

The Biology department in the School of Science at The College of New Jersey is seeking a part-time (30 hours per week) Research Technician. This position, which is funded by a federal research grant, is available immediately and will last for approximately 18 months (through March 2019). Research in the funded lab focuses on the biomechanics of marine invertebrates. The project will specifically assess the effect of environment on shell formation and mechanical properties in crabs. Duties of the technician will include (but are not limited to): sample preparation and biomechanical testing; data processing and statistics; training undergraduate students on basic techniques; monitoring lab supplies; and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment. In coordination with undergraduate researchers, he/she will conduct and implement all experimental aspects of the funded project.
Qualifications: The position requires a bachelor's degree in science or engineering. Applicants must be proficient with at least one of the following: biomechanical/materials testing; optical and electron microscopy; statistical analysis; scientific writing; invertebrate animal husbandry.

Preferred Qualifications include:

- attention to detail when recording and analyzing data
- capability to creatively develop lab infrastructure and procedures
- ability and desire to train undergraduate students
- ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
