Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo: M.S. Position in Weddell Seal Transcriptomics

We are seeking an outstanding candidate for a research-based master’s degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, beginning Fall 2018. The successful applicant will contribute to a project examining the physiological development of Weddell seals. The student will work under the mentorship of Dr. Sean Lema and Dr. Heather Liwanag at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo ( on a project examining gene expression in blubber and muscle of Weddell seal pups. Some financial support in the form of graduate assistantships will be provided. This project is a laboratory-based study; tissue samples will be provided.

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated, independent scholar who can also work well in a team environment. Basic laboratory skills and attention to detail are a must. Experience with molecular biology techniques including RNA extraction, PCR, primer design, and real-time quantitative PCR is preferred.
