Robert Kaplan Named U.S. Professor of the Year

The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has selected Robert Kaplan, Reed College professor of biology, as a 1996-97 U.S. Professor of the Year. He is the first recipient from the Pacific Northwest in the history of the national awards program.

The Carnegie Foundation honors four distinguished college and university professors each year who exemplify excellence in teaching. Kaplan was selected as outstanding baccalaureate college professor from nearly 600 faculty members nominated throughout the country.

A dedicated teacher-scholar, Kaplan uses an imaginative and enthusiastic style to motivate students in the investigation of population biology, ecology and evolution within a demanding liberal-arts environment.Division of Animal Behavior (DAB)
